How to enable DirectX rendering in Swing Catalyst

From Swing Catalyst version 6.1 and up, there is now support for DirectX-accelerated video rendering and filtering for improved performance.

This means Swing Catalyst is faster at processing video images with high resolution (HD) or when using video filters like sharpening.

To enable DirectX rendering

  • Ensure you have a graphics card with DirectX 9c support
  • Go to Main menu - Settings - General
  • Check the box for DirectX rendering

Some particular graphics cards may not work, if you run into problems, simply disable the setting.

Known problems

  • Some older laptops with ATI graphics cards do no not work due to a limitation in the ATI driver
