Important Disclosures for Users of Swing Catalyst Motion Capture Tool
Thank you for choosing our motion tracking solution for your golf swing analysis. To ensure you have the best experience and fully understand the capabilities and limitations of our tool, please carefully read the following important disclosures:
-
Accuracy and Reliability
- Limited Quantitative Testing: Our motion tracking system has undergone minimal quantitative testing. Therefore, the accuracy and reliability of the analysis may not meet professional standards for some applications.
-
Pre-Trained Models: The tool utilizes pre-trained models (RTMPose and RTMDet) that are not specifically optimized for golf swing analysis. As a result, the motion tracking results may contain inaccuracies or inconsistencies, especially, for camera views not supported by the training data of the models. For more information on the pre-trained models see the following references:
- RTMDet (Person detection): 2212.07784
- RTMPose (Persons’s body keypoints): 2303.07399, mmpose/projects/rtmpose at main · open-mmlab/mmpose · GitHub
-
Limitations of Pre-Trained Models
- General-Purpose Training: The underlying models were trained on general datasets and may not capture the specific nuances and biomechanics of golf swings.
- Pose Estimation Errors: Rapid movements and complex poses common in golf swings may under some circumstances lead to errors in pose estimation and motion tracking (see Environmental and Technical Constraints below).
- PC specifications (minimum):
-
Environmental and Technical Constraints
- Camera Quality: The effectiveness of the motion tracking is highly dependent on the quality of the video input. Low-resolution, shaky, or blurry videos can significantly reduce accuracy.
- Lighting Conditions: Poor or uneven lighting can adversely affect the detection and tracking of motion and poses of the golf swing.
- Camera Angles: The tool is optimized for frontal face-on and sagittal down-the-line camera views. Deviations from these angles may result in less accurate analysis. It is not recommended to use the top-down or back view of the golfer due to a high number of occluded body key points.
- Occluded body points: Occluded body points are detected with less precision compared to visible body points. The user should interpret the position of occluded body points with caution.
- Down-the-line view and DLP projector for launch monitors: Occasionally, DLP projector can affect performance of the motion capture models in down-the-line view. Sufficient lighting conditions is very important for these setups to prevent errors in the motion capture models.
- 2D inference only: The Swing Catalyst Motion Capture Tool does only provide 2D inference in the selected camera view. Inter-session deviation of the camera setup may affect the comparison of results. Identical camera setup should be used when comparing golf swing trials.
-
