How to use a self contained version of Swing Catalyst

Introduction

This article describes how to setup and use a self contained variant of Swing Catalyst. Normally versions like these are reserved for internal testing or exclusive testing of new features with our ambassadors.

Please note that the download for these versions is significantly larger than a normal version of Swing Catalyst.

Prerequisites

1. You have a received a zip file from our team with a self contained build of Swing Catalyst.
2. You have a valid software license for the version you received.
3. You have 3.5GB or more free disk space.

Self contained versions

A self contained version of Swing Catalyst is a special version used for testing.

It doesn't affect any existing Swing Catalyst installations and uses a entirely separate database and settings from the installed version. For example it has it's own ProgramData folder as well, entirely separate from C:\ProgramData\Swing Catalyst, this is to minimize the impact on your existing setup.

At the end of a test period we recommend to export any recordings (as take files) you wish to keep from this version to a separate folder for later. Once we release this version to the public you can update your normal Swing Catalyst installation and import the exported take files to avoid data loss.

How do I use the self contained version?

Once you have downloaded the zip file you received from our team:

1. Open the zip file and click "Extract all"
2. Click "Extract".
3. Open the extracted folder.

Copying over settings

The self contained version of Swing Catalyst has no existing settings, no license etc.

We therefor recommend to copy the existing settings from your existing Swing Catalyst installation over to the self contained version.

What folders we need to copy?

1. Calibration (if you have a Balance Plate, Motion Plate or Dual Motion Plate or similar)
2. Settings files (camera settings etc)
3. License

1. In the Windows File Explorer, open the extracted zip file you received from us and navigate to the ProgramData subdirectory.
   
2. Locate the Swing Catalyst folder in the ProgramData directory by typing %programdata% in the address bar then go to the Swing Catalyst folder.
3. Copy the following folders (right click the folder, click "Copy")
   • calibration
   • license
   • settings
4. In the self contained version folder within the ProgramData directory, right click and select "Paste" to copy the folder over.
5. Repeat for all 3 folders mentioned.

This is the extracted self contained version of Swing Catalyst, note the ProgramData directory. This directory is separate from the normal ProgramData directory. We'll want to copy the license, settings etc into here.

The ProgramData directory is almost empty, aside from the components directory. the components directory already has the files needed, so you won't have to download anything additional.

This is the C:\ProgramData\Swing Catalyst directory, we want to copy the selected folders from here to the downloaded self contained version of Swing Catalyst.

Right click on the folder and click Copy.

Paste the folder into the ProgramData directory of the self contained version.
